Hurricane Irma: Food Stamps Can Be Used In Any State

As people evacuate for Hurricane Irma, many Floridians have found themselves evacuating to the nearby state of Alabama.

Of the people evacuating a great majority of them rely on food stamps to get by. But what do you do when you have food stamps for one state and not the other?

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is letting people know that their food stamps can be used no matter where they go in the United States.

Food Stamps or more formerly known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is a federal program that the Alabama Local News reports work in every state.

Being able to use the food stamps in this way can provide people a way to get food for themselves while they wait out Hurricane Irma.

In a tweet sent out by the United States Department of Agriculture, they informed people that, “SNAP recipients leaving Florida because of Irma: Reminder your SNAP benefits can be used at any SNAP authorized store in any state. Be safe.”

Both Florida and Georgia released SNAP benefits early so that people evacuating could get food.
